The term big data plans refers to costly plans, whether daily, weekly, night, weekend, monthly, or mega plans. Each of these packages has their own range from small data plans to big data plans.
So it is advisable to go for a bigger plan irrespective of the package you are subscribing to.

Small data plans refer to those minor data plans you subscribed to, irrespective of the package you are subscribing to. Daily, weekly, monthly, night, bimonthly, all have ranges too. So don’t regard monthly or bimonthly plans as big data plans. Now that you have the concept of the two plans (big and small plans), let’s dive into their advantages and disadvantages.

It is important to note that data plans I meant here are those data packages you subscribed to. Irrespective of the network you are subscribing to, either MTN, Glo, Airtel, or 9mobile, this article is for all networks.

I won’t advise you to subscribe to small data plans; this is because they exhaust quickly. Networks have wired their small data plans to exhaust quickly so you subscribe to another. I have experimented with this and realized I spend more doing smaller plans, even more than the cost of doing a larger plan for the same period of time. You can put this to test or do your calculations.

The only benefit of small data plans is that it is affordable and serves its purpose for that moment when you are not really financially bouyant. Trust me, there is nothing good in doing small data plans.
Let me quickly give you the advantage of a big data plan before I proceed on giving comparable instances so you can decide for yourself.

Big data plans, as I have explained the context I mean, last longer than smaller plans. This is not because they are enough data to use but trust me, it exhausts slower than the smaller plans. Also, subscribing to big plans helps you save more and accumulate more data when purchasing.

The higher the plan you buy, the more data you get. what I mean is that if we are to spend ₦50k on data, and I go for a big data plan worth ₦50k and subscribe to it once. You, on the other end, use ₦50k to purchase ₦5k data in 10 places to make yours ₦50k too spent on data. I will accumulate more data than you. The total of your data might be 100 GB but I’ll get more than 130 GB by subscribing to it once.

The only downside about big data plans is because it is not affordable to all. You might not have enough resources to purchase a higher plan, thus you go for a lower data plan. Emergencies, when you are in need of data to sort out things, you might not be financially bountiful for it.

I know you might be thinking, Okay, after going for a bigger data plan like 150 GB, you can’t finish it before the timeframe for expiration. Well, rollover data comes in handy here. I have been using this to sustain myself for a while now. In all my previous articles talking about data plans and management, I have explained what to rollover data means and how to do it.

How to rollover unused weekly data plan on all networks

To rollover data is nothing new, I am surprised my subscribers still ask me what they will do if their data wants to expire. Some even go ahead and download huge files and media just to exhaust it before it expires.

I believe you must have gotten this text or SMS from your network providers that your unused data will not rollover if it expires and that you should subscribe to the same plan or renew your data plan to continue using your unused data.

Well, here is the magic. When you subscribe to a package, whether monthly or weekly or daily package, and your unused data is still there during the expiration date, just wait for it to expire. There is a grace period before your unused data will be gone. Sometimes their sms comes before it expires for you to renew, just go ahead to renew it before it expires. If it expires don’t be scared just make sure you don’t pass the grace period.

So be fast to topup your plan to keep on using the unused data when it expires. Your rollover data will be added to your new plan and date for expiration will be extended too.

How to manage and use rollover data on all networks

You must be wondering what if you subscribe and still can’t finish the new data plus the rollover data. Remember I said monthly, weekly and all the plans has variety. Meaning from small to nig plans under the same package.

This actually means you must not do the same big plan for your unused data to be rollover to the new plan. You just have to make sure you are subscribing to same package. Same package I mean refers to Monthly, Weekly, Social, Daily plans. There are cheaper and smaller plans under your monthly package for as low as ₦1500. Adding this to a ₦50k plan will still make your unused data plan last for a month again.

So make use of this advantage to do a big plan and then top up with a small plan upon expiration to continue using it. This strategy will help you save a lot.

I will say this again: big data plans are better than smaller data plans. This is already explained in this article, so let me give life situations where I have experimented with it.

I was subscribing ₦3k to ₦5k subscription as monthly plan and under 1 week it is exhausted, not to talk of now that data finishes quickly. It finish under 3 days with how I manage it. I am forced to subscribe over and over again till the end of the month. From my estimations, I have spent over ₦40k subscribing to monthly data plans. The same money I was seeing as too big for subscription, I ended up spending it on data I was managing.

So I tried out going for the big plan instead, then I went for the ₦25k plan and I was credited about 75 GB, which lasted for me for the whole month. That was then, not now that data finishes quick though, but still, you can apply the same calculations now.

If you check well, if I am to do ₦5k data in 5 places to total that ₦25k I spent. I won’t get up to that 75 GB and also it will finish quickly. This is why merchants that sells data online go for terabytes and bigger plans then retail in small quantities. They see their gains and profit because of extra and also bonuses that comes with it.
